Choosing a resin for bottle packaging comes down to three questions: what goes inside the bottle, how hot it is filled, and how much clarity the brand needs. This page is the fast reference. For the full technical breakdown — temperature ceilings, barrier data, chemical resistance and regulatory requirements — see our complete guide to choosing bottle resin.
PET vs HDPE vs PP at a Glance
HAUSTIER, HDPE and PP together account for over 85% of all plastic bottle production worldwide. Each resin has a different balance of clarity, barrier, chemical resistance, heat tolerance and cost per unit — and that balance, not supplier preference, is what should drive the specification.
Quick Comparison Table
| Property | HAUSTIER | HDPE | PP |
|---|---|---|---|
| Clarity | Excellent (clear) | Undurchsichtig / translucent | Translucent |
| Oxygen barrier | Excellent | Moderate | Moderate |
| Chemical resistance | Moderate | Excellent | Good |
| Impact strength | Good | Excellent | Moderate |
| Max fill temperature | ~75°C (85°C crystallised neck) | ~90°C | ~130°C |
| Cost per unit | Medium | Low | Medium–low |
| Recyclability | Widely recycled (#1) | Widely recycled (#2) | Recycelbar (#5) |
| Common colours | Clear, light blue, amber | White, natural, custom | Natural, white, custom |
Which Resin Should You Choose?
- Choose PET if your product needs high visual clarity, you are packaging beverages or edible oils, you need a strong oxygen and CO₂ barrier, and your product is filled at ambient temperature (below 70°C).
- Choose HDPE if your formulation contains solvents, alcohols or aggressive chemicals; you need impact resistance for shipping; your product is moisture-sensitive; or cost optimisation is the primary concern.
- Choose PP if your product is filled hot (up to 130°C), requires autoclave or steam sterilisation, needs flexural strength for flip-top caps, or is a viscous product that benefits from heat transfer through the wall.
Resin Coverage in Our Bottle Range
- PET bottles — injection stretch blow moulded, from 10 ml sample sizes to 5 L bulk containers
